-Biography
Many people on our planet Earth live their lives everyday as prisoners,
and the jail cells are their monotonous, thankless, and emotionally
unfulfilling jobs that consume their entire existence. Few people
are bold enough to take the risk of pursuing their dreams, breaking
free from the chains of social expectations, and manifesting their
personal destiny as human beings. BLUEROOT is such a group of driven
young men, whose moniker reflects their "rooted" beliefs
that the sky is indeed the limit.
The individuals
of BLUEROOT all grew up with the understanding that they would
never be able to fit into the rigid structure that many office
jobs demand. They simply weren't born with the submissive tolerance
to live "normal" lives. Therefore, upon graduating high
school, instead of going to college, they focused their collective
energy into the talents that the universe had given them, music.
BLUEROOT is
the blinding light at the end of a dark tunnel that has been the
sad state of many local music scenes across the country. In an
era where you will only get your voice heard by screaming at the
top of your lungs while hammering an out-of-tune guitar, BLUEROOT
gets their point across by experimenting with different genres,
while never abandoning the sheer power of melody. Their sound
can best be described as yet another new chapter in the book of
Rock music: Rebellious, uplifting, intriguing, organic, and always
beautiful.
The seeds
of BLUEROOT were first planted when grade school friends Wes Pagano
(vocals) and Taylor Corbin (guitar) first started writing songs
together at the tender age of twelve. Wes and Taylor shared a
love of music, and the songs they wrote were a musical library,
spanning the styles of pop, funk, reggae, rock, and psychedelic.
Once they teamed up with Ben Reiss (bass), Ryan McCusker (drums),
and then-guitarist Jason Richter in the fall of 2000, they immediately
adapted to the small but budding local music scene. Focusing solely
on just playing non-stop shows, they quickly earned a reputation
for being one of the most organic, high-intensity live rock bands
in the area.
The Summer
of 2002 saw BLUEROOT included on An Absolute Disregard for the
Common Compilation, a two-disc set released by respected indie
label DoughMain Records. DoughMain Records took immediate notice
that there was more-than-meets-the-eye with the fledgling local
band. BLUEROOT was not only garnering a positive word-of-mouth
in their hometown, but somehow the word managed to spread all
the way to different parts of the globe. Eager to fuel the fire
to the band's energy, DoughMain grabbed the opportunity to record
the group's first full-length album of completely original music.
BLUEROOT headed into the studio in the Winter of 2002 to lay down
tracks for their debut studio recording, Holocene Epoch (released
on August 5, 2003). With an all-new repertoire of music and a
strong buzz, BLUEROOT returned to the live performance circuit,
which included larger shows such as the Canyon Club (with actor/comedian
Jamie Kennedy), and a spot on The Vans Warped Tour in Ventura,
California. The album's release even received mention in a spring
issue of People magazine.
In 2004, Sony
Pictures needed a hard rock song for their upcoming action film
"Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid". They needed
to look no further than BLUEROOT. The band entered 311's Hive
Studios with renowned producer Ron Saint-Germain (311, Soundgarden,
Tool) and shaped up a new version of "Cha-Pow!". At
the same time, "Cha-Pow!" also aired on an episode of
MTV's show "Made".
Having had
a very busy year in 2004 with various industry showcases, festivals
such as NACA, a new sponsorship from AMP Energy/Mountain Dew,
and increasing pressure, the band has had to make some very tough
decisions. In January of 2005, they decided to part ways with
their longtime friend and band mate Jason Richter, due to personal
and creative differences. The hardest decisions, however, are
nearly always the right ones. Always motivated by change, BLUEROOT
greets the New Year with a fresh new identity and newly renewed
focus.
In 2005, BLUEROOT continues to move into the future by satisfying
their fate of making timeless melodies. They continue to work
diligently, now writing and recording new material for the very
highly anticipated follow-up to 2003's Holocene Epoch, expected
to heavily dent the ambiguous Los Angeles music scene. Mostly,
they're very eager to hit the road and meet up with their devoted
fans that are salivating for new incendiary concert performances.
Be sure to join in on this action when BLUEROOT comes to your
town!
